Arc news: February 2013

Free secondary school performances, Commendation Event and Arc's new Patron!

February brings a wealth of exciting news from Arc HQ!

FREE Müllered performance programmes for secondary schools, 4 March to 8 May!

Müllered is Arc's new theatre piece commissioned by British Transport Police, examining the causes, deeds and consequences of victimisation and unruly behaviour on the railways. Generous funding from BTP, Network Rail and TFL means we can now offer FREE performances to selected schools in Newham, Brent, Croydon, Lewisham, East Anglia and North London!

With a compelling and often humorous performance, a specially structured, facilitated conversation workshop, and Teachers' Resource notes compiled by writer Clifford Oliver, Müllered can effectively be used in schemes of work across all National Curriculum subjects to provide opportunities to promote pupils' spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.

Now booking FREE OF CHARGE for selected secondary schools, Müllered is specially designed for Years 7 to 10. To find out more about the programme, visit our dedicated Müllered page, or contact Nita Bocking or Theresa Snooks TODAY to find out if your school is eligible for a free performance on our eight-week tour this spring!

Finding the Words Commendation event!

From April until October 2012, 23 young women aged 12-18 from five schools across the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham took part in Arc's ground-breaking new female-empowerment project, funded by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation. We are now proud to be hosting a special evening celebrating the work of our fantastic young ambassadors, who we are delighted to announce are being awarded with a special commendation from Borough Commander, Chief Superintendent Andy Ewing.

Finding the Words - Commendation Event
6pm Monday 25 February 2013 at The Malthouse Studios

Arc's Finding the Words young leaders' project began by focusing on practical workshop sessions to explore female exploitation, abuse and youth violence.  The multi-media programme employed a range of dynamic techniques and teaching methods to embrace poetry, performance, public-speaking, script-writing and film-making, culminating in the launch of a powerful documentary film and booklet resource.  Finally, our team of passionate, creative and committed young women developed and delivered a unique touring programme that was seen by over 1150 young people around the Borough, sparking debate and discussion on some extremely hard-hitting subjects.
Every participant has worked hard to produce a really thought-provoking and memorable resource giving a strong voice to young women in the debate about female exploitation.  As well as working towards their Bronze Arts Award, our team was also shortlisted for the Barking & Dagenham Rising Star Awards 2013!

If you would like to join us in giving recognition at this special event, which will include a screening of the film, a word from our team about the project, and special presentations from Commander Andy Ewing to our incredible group of local young women, please contact Theresa Snooks to join the Guest List.
