Trading Stories

Latest community news and events

From gunpowder traitors to World Cup heroes and seventh century nuns to picketing mums... there's more to Barking and Dagenham than pie, mash and regeneration.
Isn't there?

Based on original stories and produced by the people of Barking and Dagenham, Arc is delighted to announce the Borough's new Community Play project Trading Stories.

Written by Clifford Oliver and directed by Andy Rogers, Arc is looking for local people to get involved in making a brand new play. We need actors, writers, but most importantly, we need the stories of the Borough.

So if you've got a story that you think should be heard, make sure that you are part of the Trading Stories team.

Interested? Then join us for our weekly workshops and rehearsal, which will culminate in performances across the Borough in August as part of the LIFT Molten Festival*.

Do you have a story to trade?

Trading Stories rehearsals are held every Monday from 7 to 9pm at Kingsley Hall, Parsloes Avenue, Dagenham RM9 5NB, with a free sandwich supper from 6:30 to 7pm!

To find out more, call Project Manager Josh Cass at Arc on 020 8594 1095 or email josh@arctheatre.com

St George's Day Celebrations in Barking & Dagenham

More than 2100 people attended St George's Day celebrations across the Borough on Thursday 23 April.

Schoolchildren enjoyed building a green dragon, learning to play on hand-made drums and watching 'The Devils Horseman' medieval stunt team perform jousting and riding displays at Barking Abbey Green and Old Dagenham Park.

We were delighted to add to the fun with our own St George performing some modern-day poetry for the crowds.

St George at Barking Abbey Green, separating the history from the myth and finally conquering the dragon!
