FREE FGM school staff training with Leyla Hussein

Arc has joined forces with Leyla Hussein – prominent anti-FGM Campaigner, survivor and 2014 BAFTA nominee to deliver groundbreaking new Female Genital Mutilation training to school staff.

With both primary and secondary school INSETs open to ALL school staff taking place in the London Boroughs of Barking & Dagenham and Havering, Leyla will be joining Arc’s Education Director Natalie Smith to raise awareness of the criminal practise estimated to already be affecting more than 66,000 women living in the UK.

Thanks to new funding awarded to develop and deliver training to secondary school staff by Rosa’s FGM Small Grants Programme supported by Comic Relief, and by the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) for primary school staff, Leyla and Natalie are presenting a powerful new training resource, which aims to dispel the myths and taboos surrounding FGM.

Barking & Dagenham INSETs still available for booking:

  • Wednesday 10 June at William Bellamy School, Dagenham (for PRIMARY STAFF)
  • Thursday 8 October at St Peter's Catholic School Dagenham (for PRIMARY STAFF)

Havering INSETs still available for booking:

  • Tuesday 23 June at CEME Innovations Centre, Rainham (for PRIMARY STAFF)
  • Thursday 1 October at CEME Innovations Centre, Rainham (for PRIMARY STAFF)

Arc’s INSETs will frame FGM within the context of human rights and violence against woman and girls, raising awareness of prevalence, types, consequences, criminal status and legal implications. This specially devised training will also highlight how FGM fits under Child Protection and Safeguarding, how to recognise signs, signposting where to go for help and how to report potential cases.

Places are FREE OF CHARGE, but strictly limited and filling up fast, and must be booked in advance with Arc Theatre – contact Nita Bocking or Theresa Snooks on 020 8595 8509. Content will be the same for each INSET - please let us know your date preference.
