A Tale of Two Arcs: 'The Ball at Stephen Hawking's' by Teatr ARKA
Thursday 15 to Saturday 17 August 2013 at 7:30pm
Barking & Dagenham launches major new international theatre project!
Ahead of the Wroclaw 2016 European Capital of Culture, Arc is proud to announce an exciting new creative collaboration between Barking & Dagenham and the artistic community of Wroclaw in Poland. Kicking off the partnership, Teatr ARKA brings 'The Ball at Stephen Hawking's' to Arc's Studios at The Malthouse in the Borough's Creative Industries Quarter this August!
The Ball at Stephen Hawking's is a very unusual ball. There are no pirouetting partners, no glitter balls and no orchestra – but then the sexuality of disabled people is still a taboo subject. This new play is set against the backdrop of the life of eminent scientist Stephen Hawking's achievements, and explores the challenges of being locked inside a body whilst contributing so hugely to scientific development.
Leading Polish theatre company, Teatr ARKA will be hosting the London transfer of their production fresh from the Edinburgh Festival. ARKA is the only company of its kind in Poland, and at the frontier of inclusive theatre, employs a rich ensemble of differently-abled actors. The performance will be in a mix of Polish and English and translated text will be projected during the show.
