Comic Relief funds new boys film project
We are delighted to announce that new funding from The Evening Standard Dispossessed Fund 2015, supported by Comic Relief Red Nose Day, has enabled Arc to devise a brand new multi-media project for young men in the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham!
Awarded through the London Community Fund, Arc has received grant funding to run Squad - a new programme for boys aged 14 to 18 from across the Borough to take part in a creative diversionary project, working with Arc's professional team of teachers, writers, actors and artists.
Using the issues of gangs, weapon carrying and crime and how they impact the community as a stimulus, Squad participants will devise a new film resource to engage young people and those that work with them, with emphasis on highlighting, supporting and encouraging positive and healthy lifestyles.
Creating and filming their own material, the group will work towards a celebratory launch of their new short film and an interactive tour to audiences of young people in local schools and youth groups.
Arc will be recruiting participants for Squad later in 2015! Watch this space for more details to follow soon, or contact Nita Bocking at Arc on 020 8595 8509.
About The Evening Standard Dispossessed Fund
The Evening Standard Dispossessed Fund was set up in 2010 to help grassroots charities tackling poverty, inequality and exclusion across the capital.
Since its launch in 2010, the Dispossessed Fund has raised £13.46 million from the general public, business, Government, Comic Relief and the Big Lottery. This is the most money ever raised by a newspaper campaign outside of war or natural disaster.
So far the fund has distributed over £9 million in 915 grants, helping more than 130,000 people across the capital. £3.9 million of the funds raised is invested in an endowment. This will remain invested and the interest gained will be used to support community projects for years to come, creating a sustainable source of funding for London.
