Road Safety for Barking & Dagenham primary and secondary schools
Thanks to a second round of funding from BeFirst - working on behalf of the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham, we are delighted to be able to offer our new road safety programme to both secondary and primary schools across the Borough!
Offering Streets Ahead for Years 4-6 in primary and Crossing Over for Years 7-9 in secondary schools, our dynamic new accident prevention resource for young people uses an engaging mix of live theatre and multi-media to increase road safety awareness. The programme has been specially developed for schools in collaboration with the funders BeFirst to highlight the risks and consequences of distraction or bad judgement on the street, and the impact upon victims’ families.
Using a mix of interactive theatre and Q&A discussion (as well as film clips and Qwizdom ‘gaming’ handsets for primary years), Arc’s powerful schools programme will explore key road safety messages, including:
• Road collisions are multi-causational and it CAN happen to YOU,
• Risks and consequences of distraction, e.g. friends, phones, headphones etc.,
• Vulnerability of pedestrians (i.e. roads are dangerous and vehicles can kill),
• The importance of taking individual responsibility.
Streets Ahead was originally developed from Crossing Over - Arc’s highly effective intervention tool already used successfully in secondary schools in the London Borough of Camden since 2009. The programme is delivered by Arc’s skilled, professional team of facilitators and actors and tackles the issues in the safe and inclusive school environment.
Performances are now available for booking through to spring 2020. To find out if your school is eligible for our FREE programme, contact Arc on 020 8595 8509 or email theresa@arctheatre.com
