Raising Voices in Barking & Dagenham

Would you, or someone you know, like to take part in an exciting new film and performance project in Barking & Dagenham?

If you are female and in Year 7 or over at school, you could work with Arc’s professional team of actors, filmmakers and facilitators on our latest multi-media, female leadership project, funded by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation!

As well as working on drama techniques, film production, poetry and scriptwriting, you will be developing skills in speaking and listening, teambuilding and presentation, while improving your self-confidence! So if you’d like to learn some brilliant new skills, make new friends and perform in and produce an original film, then we need you for this year’s exciting project!

Raised Voices sessions will start after February half-term 2014. You can choose to attend on Wednesdays (starting 26 February) or Thursdays (starting 27 February).

For the following six weeks we will be working on drama, media, group and solo skills, building up to rehearsals in the Easter Holidays from 8-10 April. From 14-17 April we will be undertaking an intensive filming period, using all the techniques we have been working on. We will then tour our brand new film and drama presentation to youth venues in June and July and showcase your work!

Sessions will initially be held after school at Jo Richardson School, Castle Green, Gale Street, Dagenham

To take part in this fantastic new project, just check that you are available to commit to the dates and ask a Parent or Guardian to complete, sign and return the Raised Voices Permission Form (download below) to us at Arc.

Then, be sure to attend the first Raised Voices session at Jo Richardson on either Wednesday 26 OR Thursday 27 February at 4.30pm (until 6pm). We can’t wait to work with you!

Even more exciting arts opportunities for young people!

Taking part in Arc’s projects always means there’s lots of other exciting activities to become involved in! This month our Raised Voices group went away on a fantastic PGL Activity Residential course, funded by the Tom Easton Flavasum Trust! Here’s a snapshot of what our team got up to!

And… did you know our Raised Voices group was specially filmed by the BBC and shown on BBC Breakfast News this month as part of Safer Internet Day? Here’s their full film, featuring some of our participants and Project Leader Natalie Smith talking about our work for BBC Webwise ‘Sexting: What parents need to know’
