FGM school staff training with Leyla Hussein

With four secondary school INSETS open to all school staff taking place in the London Boroughs of Barking & Dagenham and Havering this March, Leyla will be joining Arc’s Education Director Natalie Smith to raise awareness of the criminal practise estimated to already be affecting more than 66,000 women living in the UK.

Thanks to new funding awarded to develop and deliver training to school staff by Rosa’s FGM Small Grants Programme supported by Comic Relief, Leyla and Natalie will be presenting their powerful new training resource, which aims to dispel the myths and taboos surrounding FGM.

Barking & Dagenham INSETS will take place on:

• Monday 9 March 2015 at Jo Richardson Community School, Dagenham, and  
• Tuesday 31 March 2015 at Eastbury Comprehensive School, Barking

Havering INSETS will take place on:

• Tuesday 10 March 2015 at CEME Innovations Centre, Rainham, and
• Tuesday 17 March 2015 at Marshalls Park School, Romford 

Arc’s INSETS will frame FGM within the context of human rights and violence against woman and girls, raising awareness of prevalence, types, consequences, criminal status and legal implications. This specially devised training will also highlight how FGM fits under Child Protection and Safeguarding, how to recognise signs, signposting where to go for help and how to report potential cases.

This Secondary training is funded by Rosa, while funding to deliver Primary staff INSETS in the summer has also been awarded to Arc by The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) – watch this space for dates and details…
